Felt Roofing Ramsgate | Torch-On & GRP Options

The Problem

When to Replace Your Felt Roof

Traditional pour-and-roll felt roofs have a limited lifespan and are prone to cracking, blistering, and splitting - especially during temperature extremes. If your felt roof is leaking, showing visible cracks or blisters, or is more than 10 years old, it's likely time for a replacement. Continuing to patch an old felt roof is a false economy that can lead to water damage, timber rot, and expensive structural repairs.

Our Solution

Modern Torch-On Felt Systems

We install high-performance torch-on felt roofing systems that far outperform traditional methods. Using premium SBS-modified bitumen membranes, our torch-on felt systems are heat-welded to create a fully bonded, waterproof surface. These modern systems are more flexible, more durable, and far more resistant to temperature changes than old-fashioned felt. They're the ideal cost-effective solution for garages, extensions, porches, and outbuildings.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Torch-on felt is a modern roofing membrane made from SBS-modified bitumen. It's applied using a gas torch to heat-weld the membrane to the roof surface, creating a fully bonded, seamless, waterproof finish that's far superior to traditional cold-applied felt.

A properly installed torch-on felt roof typically lasts 15 to 20 years. This is significantly longer than traditional pour-and-roll felt, which often fails after just 5-10 years.

Absolutely. Torch-on felt is one of the most popular and cost-effective options for garage roofs. It provides reliable waterproof protection at an affordable price point.

In some cases, yes - if the existing deck is in good condition. However, we often recommend stripping back to the timber to check for any hidden damage and ensure the best possible result.

Felt is the most affordable option but has a shorter lifespan (15-20 years vs 20-30+ years). Rubber and fibreglass offer longer guarantees and greater durability, but at a higher initial cost. We'll help you choose the best option for your budget and needs.
